Graston technique is the use of stainless steel instruments to promote healing. There are different sizes and shapes of the instruments which are rounded and have no sharp edges. The practitioner will choose an instrument based on the area that is affected. The practitioner will then massage the area with the Graston instrument using a stroking motion. This causes an increase in rate and amount of blood flow to the affected area which will help start and promote the healing process.
Graston technique can be used to:
- Promote Healing by stretching & relaxing the muscle tissues
- Break up scar tissue and/or restrictions of the fascia
- Help increase blood flow & restore movement patterns in injured tissues
